


About Director General Films
Director General Films is an independent television production company based in Edmonton. Director General has been active in Alberta’s film industry for four years with projects ranging from issue-oriented programs to cultural and historical documentaries.
Director General develops powerful, inquiring and moving films that examines social, cultural and historical issues. Our goals are to inform and promote public dialogue on contemporary social issues and cultural perspectives through innovative uses of media, communications and community education. As a production company we are committed to fostering dialogue and a greater understanding amongst the people of this region and to bring their stories, concerns, values and ideas to the rest of Canada and the world.
Staff
Murray Jurak | Director
Murray is an award-winning documentary filmmaker. He was presented with the Grand Prix award at the Barcelona River film festival in 2002 for his film Red Run. He was nominated for an Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association (AMPIA) award for best documentary under-30 minutes.
With over ten years experience, Murray has created programs for the National Film Board of Canada, Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta, Métis Nation of Alberta, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, ACANA Japan and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. His work has appeared at the Taos Talking Pictures Film Festival, 13th annual One World film festival in Ottawa, American Indian Film Festival in San Francisco and on the CanWest Global and Knowledge Networks.
He is the president of the Dreamspeakers Film Festival, vice president of the Global Visions Film Festival and serves on the board of the National Aboriginal Media Arts Coalition and the Independent Media Arts Alliance, an organization that represents over 10,000 media artists and cultural workers across Canada.
